The two companies Sony and Honda's joint mobility venture unveiled a new electric car prototype named "Afeela" during Sony's presentation at CES 2023 in Las Vegas. The new brand Afeela will appear on the joint venture's first EV, set to go on sale in the North American market in 2026 and pre-booking will be taken from 2025.
More information is unknown about the new mobility car, but Sony Honda Mobility CEO Yasuhide said that the car would leverage Sony's experience with entertainment, Artificial Intelligence, augmented reality, and virtual reality to present a unique electric car.
They even said that "Afeela represents our concept of an interactive relationship where people feel the sensation of interactive mobility and where mobility can detect and understand people and society by using sensing and AI technologies".
This new brand EV has 40 sensors which include radar, camera, ultrasonic, and lidar will be embedded all over the exterior of the vehicle, which enhances the ability to detect objects and drive autonomously. As per Mizuno, Afeela will attempt to embody 3 main themes called autonomy, augmentation, and affinity.

The prototype unveiled on stage was a sedan with a light bar across the front and a high gloss black roof. And also, Sony is expecting its software to offer subscription services to the vehicle's owner, so that they have to pay monthly feee to access certain features.
According to Sony Honda's managing directors, the plan was to develop a car as hardware that will cater to the entertainment and network we will offer. In other words, Sony sees cars and EVs as a crucial platform for the future of its entertainment and tech products.
Finally, Sony and Honda are developing their own lineup of EVs. As part of this, they are coming with a new prototype named Afeela into the North America Electric Vehicle market in 2026. Honda has also started a new EV called Prologue and it will hit the market in 2024. The Afeela's price, battery, range, suitable areas, and all other features will be announced soon.
